Print a test page from iPhone or iPad

iOS has no built-in test page. You print a PDF through AirPrint instead.

Step by step

Your printer must support AirPrint and be on the same Wi-Fi network as your device.

  1. 1Open the PDF in SafariGo to the print test page PDF hub and tap the PDF that matches your paper size, Letter or A4.
  2. 2Tap ShareTap the Share button, then scroll down and tap Print.
  3. 3Choose a printerTap Select Printer (it may read No Printer Selected) and choose your AirPrint printer.
  4. 4Check options and printSet the copies and pages, then tap Print in the upper-right corner.

What a test page tells you

  • AirPrint works over Wi-Fi or a wired network. According to Apple, it does not work with printers connected by USB or Bluetooth.
  • The AirPrint print screen is a simple one. Many printers hide advanced options and maintenance tools in their own app or on the printer panel.
  • Nozzle checks and head cleaning are usually run from the printer itself or the maker’s app, not from the iOS print sheet.
  • AirPrint prints what the app sends. Check the preview on the print screen, because iOS can fit content to the page in some apps.

If you search for how to print a test page from an iPhone or iPad, the honest answer is that Apple’s print system has no test page command. What you have instead is AirPrint, which sends any document or image to a compatible printer without installing a driver. That is all you need to print a proper test sheet.

What you need

  • A printer that supports AirPrint.
  • Your iPhone or iPad and the printer on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Plain paper in the tray, in the size you plan to select.

Print one of our PDFs

Open the PDF hub in Safari, tap the file for your paper size, then use Share and Print. The same works from the Files app. Take a moment on the print screen to check the preview and the number of copies before you tap Print.

Which sheet should I print?

What this does and does not prove

A successful print proves your device can reach the printer and that the printer can put ink or toner on paper. It does not guarantee your phone’s app sends the page at exactly 100%. If your print looks smaller or larger than expected, run the scale check and read prints too small.

Maintenance from a phone

Cleaning cycles and alignment are controlled by the printer, not by iOS. Use the printer’s own panel or the maker’s app. Our brand pages for Epson, Canon, HP and Brother explain what is typical and link to the official instructions.

Printer not found?

Check that the printer is on and connected to the same network, then try again. If the problem continues, see printer offline.
