Booklet page order preview
See which pages go together on the front and back of a folded booklet. Count the sheets and blank pages before you print.
Plan your booklet
Whole number, 1–10,000. Count document pages, not sheets. Include any blank pages already in your file.
Whole number, 1–1,000,000. Each copy uses a separate set of sheets.

16 document pages + 0 added blank pages = 16 page positions per booklet. 1 copy; 0 added blank positions across the job.
One folded sheet holds four page positions. “Blank” means an added empty page position, not an extra blank sheet.

Back

Look directly at each face with its top upright. Sheet 1 is the outside sheet; nest later sheets inside it. The back is a separate view, not a transparent overlay.
How to use this with a PDF
- Keep an ordinary PDF in reading order: page 1, page 2, page 3, and so on. This tool previews placement; it does not rearrange or print your file.
- In Adobe Acrobat desktop, open Print, then choose Booklet under Page Sizing & Handling. Acrobat arranges the page pairs for you. Do not manually reorder the PDF to match this preview and then apply Booklet again.
- Choose the appropriate binding and booklet subset. Adobe offers Both sides for automatic duplex, or Front side only / Back side only for a two-pass workflow. For reloading, follow your printer’s instructions rather than the diagram.
- Print a small test, fold it and check the reading order before printing every copy. Use the app’s preview too: selected page ranges, existing imposed PDFs and other layouts can behave differently.
This is a two-pages-per-face layout, not one full document page on each side. For that ordinary layout, use the page-range and paper-use calculator. For missing two-sided options or upside-down backs, see duplex troubleshooting.
How the count and page pairs work
Round the document count up to a multiple of four: padded pages = 4 × ceil(document pages ÷ 4). Sheets per copy = padded pages ÷ 4. Sheets for the job = sheets per copy × copies. Added blanks per copy = padded pages − document pages. These blanks come after the last document page in reading order.
For a 16-page left-bound example, the outside front is 16 | 1 and its back is 2 | 15. The next sheet is 14 | 3, then 4 | 13 on its back. Right binding mirrors the left and right positions on each face.
The count assumes one nested, center-folded set per copy. It excludes separate signatures, creep (page shifts caused by folding thickness), trimming, separate covers, test prints and reprints. It is not a practical binding-capacity estimate. The page-pair layout does not specify tray feed direction, output-stack order or a universal duplex flip setting.
Sources and checks
Workflow checked against Adobe’s desktop booklet instructions and Adobe’s booklet overview on October 22, 2026. Our preview is an illustration; physical printer output and model-specific reloading remain untested.
No document upload is needed. Your page count, copies and binding choice stay in this browser and are not stored or sent. See privacy. For complete-copy versus repeated-page order, read what collate means; for other helpers, visit printer tools.
